Second Fest - Hawk's Version

Well, to quote myself from an earlier post, I think that in total SecondFest, quite frankly sucks ass. I stand by everything that Jelly references below with regards to time zones, confusion, and oddities, with the exception of the fact that my Quicktime works so I haven't confined Apple to one of the lower levels of hell. The little bit of the festival that I was able to participate in today started out with a few fun things, where I found some bands I liked in the Indie tent, and also enjoyed the last few songs of the Wired Daisies show. It was an interesting take on other live shows, as the bands were streamed live from the studio via large movie screens placed on the stage. But really we were just killing time until the Pet Shop Boys were scheduled to take the mainstage at 3 SL time.

It is a classic case of expectations far outshining the execution. It is hard to think of SL in the same vein as Pong, but in a lot of ways they are breaking ground in this new area of pulling live bands and performances into a virtual world. I should expect some hiccups, and issues along the way. All that being said though, the Pet Shop Boys performance REALLY SUCKED. First off, let me say that it was a cop-out to splice together concert footage and play that as if it was a live performance. Secondly, the fact that the video was playing without sound sort of impacted the overall experience (dripping sarcasm and understatement.) Thirdly, there was a group of backup dancers that were hilarious since they used people who clearly had no idea how to navigate in SL. Maybe they recruited professional dancers, instead of hiring a few fat guys who can play SL in their underwear and throw on a pretty AV and wow the crowd? Regardless, it was at least providing some comic relief watching the girls as they plowed through each other and flying around the stage in an attempt to take up their positions to just stand there and do absolutely nothing. Sort of seems like they should have been dancing, but I dunno I always expect too much.

There is huge potential upside for this type of collaboration and event in the future, but unfortunately we will have to wait for a future event to deliver on the potential. I hope that the next round makes the improvements necessary to deliver on the goods.

I GIVE UP! - SecondFest

What a load of shit, all of it. First off let me start with... this is a vent. Deal! I was so excited about SecondFest... *takes a deep breath* It started with the whole BST (Britain Summer Time) timezone bullshit. If you're going to hold an event in a virtual world that runs on it's own time zone, DO it in that time zone. Then I get there a day early to check out the grounds, okay so I get my wristband & it's uberly big & no mod. Okay... I can deal.

So then I wander & walk. I run across signage "Get Your Free Skates On..." Okie dokie pokie. I put them on & continue walking. Walking?! As I look up I realize my skates don't work, and why is that? Akasha points out that there are NO SCRIPTS on the sim. Loverly! *grumbles under her breath* So we go & check out some of the stages, watch some videos, etc. The stages were packed with people doing almost the same dances because again, NO SCRIPT, and they were so kind enough to provide dance machines packed with crappy dances for all. Huzzah! No, fuck that, I am not a clone. So I dig into my inventory looking for a dance animation to play. How boring, the same one dance over & over in a loop. *Yawns & gives up*

I left and as soon as Hawks came online later we explored the grounds some more. That part was fun. Except Hawks made the observation that we are both Type A explorers, meaning we both like to lead. LOL! This is true, I swear I feel I need a leash on him just as much as he prob feels the same about me.
There's a few free things here & there that are good for souvenirs to commemorate the 07' SecondFest as well as just crap you could find in a nooblet locker. The exploring with Hawks part was fun, but we got bored after a bit and moved on to better things.

Then TODAY! The day the Pet Shop Boys were to take the stage. Okay so there were only two bands that I truly wanted to see... Groove Armada & the Pet Shop Boys. Since we had missed Groove Armada, we planned, did the math, scheduled ourselves etc etc to see PSB. I even went and festooned to YELLOW! My gawd! YELLOW! Just for the occasion. I get there & my QuickTime, the piece of shit that it *is* said it was "negotiating" for the longest time. I couldn't even stream. I uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, farked with preferences, kicked my desk, cussed a lot, and in the end... NOTHING!

So after the last reinstall of QT I lost the means to view any of my videos, any podcasts, the tunage section on VS and the waffles. Fuck that! Fuck it! Damn it to hell! I hate QT! I uninstalled it again & now everything is back to normal but I can't watch any movies in SL until I get over being pissed enough to see straight & finger it out.
So to sum it up... QT is the devil & I HATE SECONDFEST! BUT... I got a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup & it helps. Thank you Haappy!
The end!

As Seen on T.V.

I saw this on Torley's blog this a.m and had to give it a shot too. From the Simpsons Movie website — create your own avatar! JellyBean in Springfield. Huzzah!

Back in WindLight
It still crashes on me but I was able to spend almost 43 whole minutes in before I crashed. I miss WindLight. I know the night settings aren't that great but it rocks in daylight settings for scenic pics. I have no clue when LL will be giving it back to us in normal everyday SL. Hopefully soon. The whole Live Viewer testing then taking it away to test Voice was a little confusing. I can only imagine how they plan to roll out both of those to norm SL, it seems as if it'd be a chaotic mess. Only time will tell. Think it'll take a year? Ana takes some great WindLight pics on her blog. You should def check them out.

New Toys - Fun for the whole family!
Yesterday Hawks & I picked up the Jump Boots by Disembodied Hand at Steam-Powered Ind. after seeing them blogged on Style Disorder. I dropped so much $L there it isn't even funny. I bought myself... the Fem Pack, gas mask, Skinners Elbow Pads, Tribal Warrior set, Junkyard Warrior set, Trudeau Top hat and of course the kick ass jump boots. Oh gosh! They are so much fun. We even had a jumping contest. Even full of attachments, I jumped further, like 44 meters from Hawks.

I partnered the boots up with my Boom Lash and without aiming, I hit Hawks twice. :( Sorry baby! Figures when I aim at David, I always miss. I have a feeling Hawks may make a rule of no throwing toys in the house. :/ I think the best solution to this issue would be to just get him his own Boom Lash so that we're on a more even playing field. :p Sounds only fair-ish to me. :D

Getting Down with the Thickness
Hawks & I spent the morning exploring the SecondFest activities. Main stage was thick with people. A few asking why their chims weren't working. *Jelly points to the NO Script icon* We had missed out on the bands for yesterday playing live. I was under the impression that this would be a party all weekend type of deal. Apparently I was wrong because some asshat decided the festivities should be on Britain Summer Time zone. Honestly take an SL population poll, how many actually operate on that time zone? When all else fails, use SL time. DUH! *huffs & puffs* I *think* we have it figured out in time for the Pet Shop Boys performance tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

JH Report Show III
I can't say we're all over it because well, we've been distracted by shiny things. The JH Report Shows I & II are up on the new podcast link, and we'll be getting our asses in motion with the ocean on Show III asap. Stay tuned!

SecondFest Doors are Open!

Intel 8 is open for all ya'll to grab your wrist bands & start explorin! A few things to mention:
  • The wrist band is HUGE! Needs to be adjusted where it attaches, and is no mod. Enjoy your huge wristband.
  • Free Skates! But... the sim is no script so good luck using them there. They are also HUGE, and no mod as well.
  • The schedule is written like military time but is actually in British Summer Time (SLT + 8hrs) Again, Gluck.
REMIX:
Apparently I was wrong, a couple of the sims out of the 9 are allowing scripts. AND there seems to be a different size wrist band in the different turnstiles. Oh yah and I think it's -8 hours. I am so farking confused. :/
