JH Productions - for hire

Well Jell and I have been doing quite a few film projects for ourselves, for our friends, or just to try to make a point about something in a fun way through the JH reports -- all under the umbrella of our JH productions tag. We are now entering a new era for JH productions, that of capitalistic endeavor.

We were approached out of the blue by Portia Roelofs to film a promotional vid for her to assist with her Rock the Vote campaign for SLSA (Second Life Surfing Association). We settled on a price, and then busted out a vid. No sooner had we finished the vid for her, than we started receiving additional requests to film vids for other peeps. After some discussion with Jell, we have decided to test the commercial waters and see how far we can take this lil venture. Our goal's are modest to begin with, I would like to be able to make enough to cover my internet bill and not have to buy any Lindens from my half... Jell would like to be able to cover her shoe expenses...

So more to come on that when we roll out the official marketing campaign, for now we are content to just wade into the waters through word of mouth. If you are interested in requesting our services, then feel free to contact either Jelly or myself in world.

Surf Report: Free Your Mind

Nothing can compare to the happiness of listening to new Ska tuneage as you check out a new sweet surf spot. First I'd like to thank the heck outta Harlan. Once again you've given me some swoony tunes with the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra. I'd also like to thank who ever is secretly funding the massive Rezzable sims for they have given us more options for surfications spotacular yumgasmness.

Introducing Surfline Epic Rezzable, Surfline Aloha Rezzable, Surfline Hang10 Rezzable, and coming soon... Surfline Wave Rezzable. Each sim is completely different with the main focus on nice waves to put a smile on any surfer's face. I visited each one and here's my opinions on each.

Surfline Epic Rezzable - Nothing completely extraordinary build-wise. There are a few vendors but nothing that totally impressed me to purchase. Waves are sweet though.

Surfline Aloha Rezzable - More Windward side of O'ahu/rain forest oriented. Complete with tiki statues & nice cozy chillaxin spots. Abandoned wooden boats & cargo line the beaches as well as small huts & piers.

Surfline Hang10 Rezzable - More cast away/rain forest oriented - there's greenery & a nice big build. Pillow Talk pillows are strategically placed throughout the island for a true Zen-like feeling. A small stream mountainside where the dragonflies play is where I found my moment of Zen. There is NO BUILD - so technically you can't surf here - yet.

Surfline Wave Rezzable - is not yet open for teleport but you can always take a peek on the big map at how it's starting to take shape.

Surf Competition - October 13 at La Bahia

La Bahia is hosting an SLSA sanctioned surf competition on Saturday. As a matter of fact it is the season finals (a season is like a 4-5 month block). Next month will start a new season, I think. But this could still be your first competition. You do not have to have entered a comp before to surf in this one.

The only rules to enter are that you need to join the SLSA group... and you need a long board. The first is easy. Copied from what I wrote on the SLSA blog:
Q: How do I join SLSA?
A: In-world, search “Groups” for SLSA, either under:
Edit (top of screen), Groups…, Search
“Search” (button at bottoms of screen), Groups,
then look for “SL Surfing Association” and click “Join”. That’s it.

The second part is the board. You need a board that is Namiko length or longer, scripted by Heather Goodliffe. If you are not sure about your board, ask me. I will help you figure it out. If you don't have a board... well, there are some to borrow on the beach at La Bahia. The are the black and white SLSA boards.

So, you have taken a deep breath, decided that Hell Yeah! this sounds like fun. So, how do I actually enter the durn thing? I am so glad you have asked. You go to the SLSA forum... find the thread entitled "Competition Registration". Reply to the thread, saying "Hell Yeah! Count me in." Or something to that effect (I think the original post has an example-you could just copy it if you have writers block). The important part--> include your name... umm, your avi name. First and last name exactly as you sign on. Once you are on the thread, you are entered. Registration ends at 5pm SLT on Thursday, October 11.

What do you get out of the deal? Fun!! A great day surf, some adrenaline pumping, good company, an after party on the new La Bahia Plaza located right in front of The Shops at La Bahia. Cash and prizes. I have no clue what the cash and prizes are for this comp, but I have heard there are going to be some. I have won a Namiko gift certificate in the past. Plus I am going to be giving out gift certificates to Turtle Bay. Not sure how many and for how much yet. Hmmm... I guess I should think about that, huh?

If you like to surf, it is a lot of fun to participate. No reason to be intimdated if you haven't competed before... at some point neither had any of these people. The best surfers I know finish poorly sometimes and the first-timers do well - you never know how it is going to go until you get on the wave. :) Kindof like real life, you know?

Epic & crisp on all SL shores.

A large NNE short-period swell looks very rideable today. Semi-smooth ocean surface now, but expect gusty ENE Trades on it by midday.

Surf Report: Sneaka Peeka - JB Boardies by LVS

I love Ravenlynn Templar of LVS so farking much, my pores are seeping bubble hearts. :) I im'd her a few days ago because I was in dire need of GOOD board shorts for women that are stylish as well as practical. One thing I've learned in this SL surfing scene is that I spend a lot of time staring at my own ass crack due to board riding versus cam controls versus no good board shorts.

As you all know, crack kills and I was dying a slow death... but now I thank Ravenlynn... female SL surfers thank her, ass cracks across the grid thank her & a shrine may need to be built. :p Unfortunately though all ya'll are going to have to wait about two weeks for these to be released. She is preparing for a big grand opening in the second week of September, so these wont be released till then. Trust me as soon as I know, you'll know. They will be transfer/mod and only 115L (top & bottom) BARGAIN! :D She'll eventually be releasing a whole line of different colors and patterns. ;)

Until then though you can check out her great bikinis for when you're tanning your pixels, playing watersports, or frolicking in the local water holes. :D

Surf Report: Stick Directory

Hai guise! So I'm Hawkless, starting to get pouty, and trying to keep busy. Gillian I'll be bugging you more, that's your warning. :p Myg would so suffer your fate had she not conveniently went on vaca. Lmao. So anywho, I'm starting another VS Series here called "Surf Report". I'm new to the SL Surfing scene, so I figured while I try to finger it all out, I can help others find their water fins as well.

Starting with boards... I'm sure there's tons of boards out there, but these are the ones I have tried.

Rob John's Surfboards - Self proclaimed "finest Surf boards" handcrafted at the reasonable rates in all of SL. From short beach break boards, classic long boards, and even those big guns for the knarly wave rider! Rob John's also offers boogie boards and swim fins, as well as many assorted items to enhance your AV.

WaveLabs Surfboards - Sexy surfboards with great animation and free surfing demos. Fly our new Hangglider! Surf all day, dance on the beach all night!

Sebastian Saramago and Heather Goodliffe's Surf Boards - No more skate boarding on water! Seb's surf boards, scripted by Heather Goodliffe, make for the most realistic surfing experience in Second Life. These boards work naturally with Heather Goodliffe's waves.

Those are the three boards I own. Now *my* reviews. :p Dun dun dun

Rob John's Surfboards - This was my favorite board until I tried riding it at La Bahia Beach in Holmfrid. It was possessed, I have Dreamer as a witness that both times I mounted the sucker it flew up the sand. It did work nicely in Surf City with the waves by the same creator of the boards (Robin Mapp).

WaveLabs Surfboards - Not good for the real surfer or someone who truly wants to learn. These were the boards we used in the Surfer Babes video back in February. I suggest these for machinima props but really not for the more advanced surfing. The coolest part is being able to hold the board. :)

Sebastian Saramago and Heather Goodliffe's Surf Boards - My most favorite board EVER! It's the most realistic, jelly-friendly board I've found. Not only that but it's perfect for beginner as well as advanced. I own the "Flot-Jet board - Big Dawg Board Advanced" in pink designs of course. Paddle your board out to the waves and catch waves by paddling with the waves, carve up the waves with turns and tricks, crouch down for more powerful turns. Surfboards are rideable by friends - if you own a sim you can leave them out for guests. Touch dialog menu that allows you to set advanced/beginner/or display mode as well as allow all/allow group/owner only ride access. Basic Advanced boards are no-mod, no-copy.

Okay so there ya go... Stay tuned for where to surf your new stick :D
