Happy Leap Day

Every four years we get an extra day. Don't question it, just enjoy it. Hah! Hawks says I'm getting my blogs confused - he's probably right, he usually is.

I logged into SL this morning after 2 days out to catch up on offlines, invey offers & such... so I have stuff to blog. It's all in my head but at the moment I haven't much time to get in, take pics, etc.

I've been wanting to do a post on SL to RL (Gilly suggested this for a JH Report months ago - love ya Gillian) but I'm trying to figure out exactly how I want to write that one up. Hawks & I may not be doing it right, or by the book (if there is one) but as soon as I gather thoughts & have time to just sit down & tell "our" story, I will.

Have a great leap day! Huggles & kissiepops!

Mele Kalikimaka me ka Hau'oli Makahiki Hou

Hey Stewies - Hawks has gone on Holiday vaca, and I'm not far behind. I still need to replace the pie I ate last week [oops], call the family mainland, and wrap up the Santa gifts. I thought it'd be funny if I left you guys to your Christmas festivities with a local Christmas story. Don't worry if you have a hard time reading Hawaiian Pidgin, you'll get the jist. This hauli can't speak it well but I can understand it after hours & hours of work. :p Mele Kalikimaka me ka Hau'oli Makahiki Hou to you & yours.

Yule Lerv It!

A Christmas Tale

At this time of year it is patently clear
That the males are the ones who are blest.
Thoughts like "goodwill to men" we hear time and again
And we find them quite hard to digest.

As we women all know, men think they run the show,
And sometimes we allow them this pause.
But it gets on our nerves, like too many hors d'oeuvres
When we want to get at the main course.

Many times out of mind the same problem we find,
Leaving plans to the menfolk is risky.
Christmas spirit they think is some kind of a drink,
Such as vodka, Baccardi, or whiskey.

Since we carry the load, men keep out of our road,
We are ready and willing and able.
For it's perfectly clear, that the stuffed turkeys here
Are not always confined to the table.

The traditional way is now rather passe,
Lets give credit, where credit is due.
Then you'll see, man or boy, in return you'll enjoy
The fruits of OUR goodwill to you.

Custom Barracuda 60

Hawks surprised me with my very early very Merry Christmas gift. :) My very own customized Barracuda! :o Here I was saying that I was on a blog break & he pulls this. :p I just had to blog it!

This completely awesome boat is one of a kind & designed by Maximilian Milosz.

BARRACUDA 60, OWNERS MANUAL

Model: Barracuda 60
Manufacturer: MaxMarine
Maker: Maximilian Milosz
Scripting: Nitrox Peel
Location: 􀀀

SPECIFICATIONS:
Length: 60ft/18m
Width: 18ft/4.5m
prims: 22 (base) + 243 (attachment), 265 total
Seats: 5 + 2 on front deck
Permissions: no mod / copy / no transfer

--

The Barracuda 60 is a high performance classic racer inspired both by modern day Offshore Formala One and by legendary classics such as The Riva and Cris Craft. The boat is built primarily for style and ease of use, making it both enjoyable to look at and to drive.

--

USE:

Using the Barracuda 60 requires some basic knowledge on how vehicles operate in Second Life. If this is your first boat it might take some time getting used to, not to mention you'll probably be quite disappointed by any other boats available in Second Life.

First rez the 'MaxMarine Barracuda 60' on water.
The boat comes in 2 pieces: The base and attachment. The base will automatically rez the attachmnet part.
If you want to move or rotate the boat, be sure you move the base, the attachmnet will automatically follow.
Also make sure you rez it in a place that allows rezzing and a decent prim count.

DRIVING:

The Barracuda 60 can only be driven by it's owner.
- Sit directly at the drivers seat, exactly where your bottom would go.
- You will then be asked if you want to attach the attachment part - answer 'Yes'. Make sure you have any AO (Animation Override) disabled.

To drive, simply use the Arrow keys.
To adjust trottle, use the E and C keys.

At lower speed the boat will stall somewhat, adjust trottle to bring the boat into plane.
The boat will usually be able to cross minor obstacles.

PASSENGERS:

Passengers can sit in any seat other than the drivers seat., one in front and three at the back.
In addition there are 2 seatings at the front deck.

THE HUD:

- The HUD will give you some basic information: Compass direction, Speed and time.
- Depth and fuel are non functional at this point, and not really relevant either. You may use the fog horn however, but be ware - i's really loud. You may also use the Fog Horn attached to the boat itself.
- Attach the HUD from your inventory by right-clicking and choose Wear.
- The HUD will attach at the bottom center of your screen and you may adjust it if needed.

FLAG:
There are several flags included. The most common ones according to users in SL and a few non-country flags. Click the flag in order to change it into the one you want.

--

KNOWN ISSUES:

Sim crossing:
This is in general a pain in SL and will in some cases make the attachmnet part disappear fully or partially, then reappear after a few seconds. In worse case you will get lost and have to relog. There's nothing to be done about this, but hope Linden Labs will some day fix it.
Try driving slower across sim borders.
You can also stand up and sit down again to make the boat reappear. The same applies to the HUD - if it disappears during a sim crossing, detatch and reattach.

Detail level:
When attached, you may notice some objects becomes less detailed, this especially applies to sculpties. This is due to how the SL client renders.
The same applies to how others see the boat from a distance, or how you will see other peoples boats when attached. Try turning off avatar impostors under Graphics in Preferences.

Camera controls:
The camera is by default set at an angle behind the boat. If you should loose focus, please adjust your camera settings to match.

If there are any issues in general, it usually helps deleting the boat and rez a new one from your inventory.

I love love love love it! ty ty ty ty ty!!! *tackle hugs*

Mele Kalikimaka me ka Hau'oli Makahiki Hou

* Mele Kalikimaka - Merry Christmas. The words "Mele Kalikimaka" are a phonetic translation. When the missionaries and other Westerners first brought the custom of Christmas to the islands the Hawaiians had difficulty pronouncing Merry Christmas and turned it into words that rolled more easily off their tongues.
* Hau'oli Makahiki Hou - Happy New Year. The western Christmas and New Year fell during this same time of the year that the Hawaiians traditionally honored the earth for giving them plenty to eat. This period of resting and feasting was called Makahiki (mah-kah-HEE- kee). It lasted for 4 months, and no wars or conflicts were allowed during this time. Because makahiki also means "year", the Hawaiian phrase for "Happy New Year" became "Hau'oli (happy) Makahiki (year) Hou (new)"(how-OH-lee mah-kah-hee-kee ho).
* Mele Kalikimaka me ka Hau'oli Makahiki Hou - Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
* Mahalo Nui Loa - Thank you very much. When you receive a nice gift or are treated to a special meal or beautiful song, you'll want to express your appreciation for the kindness.
Here are a few individual words that you may also see in Hawaii during the Christmas season:

* Angel - Anela
* Candy - Kanake
* Christmas Eve - Ahiahi Kalikimaka
* Christmas Tree - La’au Kalikimaka
* Elf - Menehune
* Garland - Lei
* Gift - Makana
* God - Akua
* Holly - Kawa’u
* Jesus Christ- Iesu Kristo
* Joy, Happy - Hau’oli
* Love - Aloha
* Mistletoe - Kaumahana
* Ornament - Wehi
* Peace - Malu
* Reindeer - Leinekia
* Santa Claus - Kanakaloka
* Snow - Hau Kea
* Snowball - Popohau
* Snowflake - Hau puehuehu
* Star - Hoku
* Wreath - Lei

Thnxgivin Blues

I'm not really feelin it this year... I mean I have the turkey in the oven and it's starting to fill the house with that cooked carcus heavenly scent but it's just not right.

Anyroo... whatev!

I've always been an idea girl. Never one to put things in motion cause that requires talent. So my head is always full of ideas. My latest big one was for SL pre-fab(ulous) home designers.

As most of you know Hawks & I own the Barnesworth Anubis Belle Aire home. We love it so much, bought it weeks ago & have yet to finish decorating it. So now it's the holidays, and I'm a big fan of Christmas in SL.

My suggestion to pre-fab(ulous) home designers is... Holiday add-on packs. For instance garland, Christmas lights, wreaths, etc. for exterior decorating this holiday season. Not only Christmas but other holidays as well. As I was going through my "seasonal folder" I realized a lot of my previously used Christmas deco is no mod, which really sucks. Barnes made a beautiful curved roof on the Belle Aire and I have yet to find hanging garland with nice lights that will curve along it. Plus the wreath I threw up there truly does suck. Anywho, if Barnes takes me up on this challenge, I'll be one happier girl. Go Barnes! Do it! Pretty please with potatoes?

My Fourth of July - Part Two (SL + RL)

I took a short break, then back into SL I went. Immediately starting off with a performance by Louis Volare @ the HC 2008 HQ. "Luigi and Landon Volare will be performing at the Hillary Clinton 2008 SL Campaign headquarters. Hear some songs that you've never heard before. Landon is the shy guy and Luigi is the outgoing one, in case you don't know. Love and Peace Always and Everywhere."
He's good, like really really good. I told Hawks that he doesn't even need us to write up a review on him. So that's all I'll say about that.
After him was Kim Seifert and well, we already know how I feel about her shows, so we left. Moving on... and we're walking, we're walking...

We remmy'd that Bill & Pam was a recommended show, so after seeing the notice: Come on down for our 4th of JULY EXTRAVAGANZA!!! Soft Shadows 630-830pm FIREWORKS! Wear your best patriotic clothing RED WHITE AND BLUE 300L for the best Female 300L for the best Male giveaways, Sploder and more!!! We decided to change & head down. Pam & Bill Havercamp's music is music is considered Soft Classic Rock/Oldies from the 60's 70's and beyond (Beatles, Eagles, Sony & Cher, Mamas & Papas... etc). I really enjoyed their Jersey accents, I believe that's what it was. In either case it was crazy adorable. I also loved the way they communicated together & loved it best when they sang together not just solo.

I had to rush off to RL which I dreaded due to the Army Corp of Engineers. Oh yah, Engineers, I don't like you. Every year it's the same thing if I drive, I'm lead around in a huge circle again & again until finally the same guy for the third time directing me around the circle again realizes that I am actually aiming for him with my car and he let's me turn the way I want. Well all that happens AFTER the fireworks show, but gives you some insight on why I didn't want to drive. I did end up driving, but parked well away from everyone else because that gave me less chance of ending up in the infinite loop.

Anywho made it in one piece & after finding somewhere to sit, went on the funnel cake hunt. WTF! NO FREAKING FUNNEL CAKES!?! We got their 4 hours early and no freaking funnel cake? *cries* It wasn't all bad they did have Hawaiian Roasted Corn cobs. Yay! The lines for all the rides were insane. One attraction completely cracked me up though so I planted my ass in front of the ropes just to watch. It was called "Auto Mash". Tickets in Hawaii are called "scripts", why? Iunno. Anywho this was 2 scripts for 5 hits, or 5 scripts for like 15 hits or something. Basically they hand you a mallet & you get to wack the shit out of a car. It was cute watching the kids suit up complete with a big face visor & try to beat the car with a smaller hammer.

Though the kids were cute, the adults were funny as hell. To see the grown men thinking they were uber macho go out there & beat on it was the funniest. One guy kept hitting the bumper, I guess so he could feel like a manly man ripping off PLASTIC? hahahahaha! Another would hit, then stop to flex his muscles, if thats what you wanna call it and then hit the car again. He was the same guy that tripped walking away afterwards. So graceful. That was the highlight of my night. The fireworks were same as last year except the tree that was there musta grew an extra 5 feet which made it hard to see all of em. Yada yada yada. To make an already long story short, I avoided every road with an MP or Corp of Engineers blockade. Yay me. The End!

My Fourth of July - Part One (RL + SL)

*yawns & stretches* Fourth of July is big here because of where I live (military post). I've been hearing cannons & "hooahs" for 2 days. The festivities start early (like 2 hours ago) with a 5k run... yah, no thanks. We have a carnival, booths with games & crafts, BBQs, live music (not that great) and traffic. I'm not in the mood... not yet.
So I log into SL debating on a Stellar Skin review. I take the pics, I think of how to write it before I say fuck it. All morning I've gotten notices from the LME group regarding Fourth of July themed Live Music events.

Thinking this might be just what I need to get in the mood & take my mind off of missing Hawks, I chose one. Introducing Funky Rang. He was playing live at The Night Owl (Jade's joint is the bomb diggity. Beach front dancing, great music (dj & live), fat sploder & theme/costume parties). I think he's really Randy Newman with a keyboard. :p He plays funk, soul, blues, standards & funny stuff. He was cracking me up. I wasn't too keen on the keyboard sound/noise, but I loved the interludes and his opinions were making me laugh so hard. He sang very patriotic songs & gave his humorous political views. At one point he said "You should not fear your government, your government should fear you." I completely agree.

Hawks eventually joined me & chased off the guy trying to pick me up at the bar. Yay! Hawks! All in all the crowd, atmosphere & "ambiance" was a good experience. I vote him a must see. He fits SL perfectly. :D Funky Rang is available for all occasions.
